Discover strange fish on a distant alien planet in REEL, a 2d idle game made by a team of four.

Visit the shack, upgrade equipment, and read more about your findings as you spend the night on a mysterious dock. With various creatures, scenes, and endings to unlock, this unfamiliar world will soon be your home.

This game was created for the PIGSquad 2023 Idle Slow Jam with a theme of "Mutation."

It was a two-week long project full of all-nighters, Unity being Unity, and Gartic Phone on Discord. Our team members each had their main roles, but we often crossed paths and collaborated on different parts to create the final game. This is our baby, and we hope you enjoy it!

(Playable in browser, but we recommend downloading the game since browser performance may vary.)

The REEL OST is available for download or streamed on SoundCloud & Spotify!

Adam Doolittle: UI/UX

Anthony Cerullo: Art

WaiKei (tuturu_owo): Programming

I'm glad the game autosaved; I really wanted to go back and read through all the fish descriptions, and that made it easy! I was charmed that you bothered including unique sounds for each one.

This game feels so lo-fi. It's really relaxing. I would buy a finished version on steam!

Are the fish based off of REEL fish? (Yes I just made a pun

Yes! We took heavy inspiration from real fish, but some are completely original! ex. fish.png :3 I (Adam) spent a couple hours just getting the Genus Names accurate to similar species, then customizing it to be unique to our creation. Glad you asked! :)

found a bug that destroys the progression, if you spam-click claim on the poles or boxes you get a lot more fish

Not my usual game, but really enjoyed it!
Was strangely peaceful, keep up the good work!

I absolutely love this game! Loved the chill fishing but also the emotional decisions towards the end! Who knew fishing on an alien plant can be thought provoking? Great game!

Thank you so much for the recording and feedback! Glad you enjoyed ^^

great game, 10/10, loved the story and artwork.

Might be nice if you could right-click the fishing poles or traps to claim the fish. Or a claim all button. Or at least for the window to close after clicking claim.

And why do the shop's popups not close when clicking outside of them while the fishing rod/trap popups do?

How many endings

Great work m'bud. It is amazing that how polished this look give this was done in just two weeks. The mechanics are solid too.

(+4)

I loved the 2D art of the game and the game play loop, and I founded hilarious all the references put in the all the fishes descriptions. Congrats!

(+1)

Thanks so much! And I had a ton of fun writing the descriptions :)

(+4)

I feel like i could play this game forever...

Amazing game, I wanted to keep getting new fishes, it reminded me of a simple time trying to complete my pokedex.

Aw we're really glad you enjoy it!

(+2)

Lovely story about the balance between nature and human needs. 10/10

(+3)

This is a beautiful little game :D

This is a nice little game! I like the artwork and music a lot. I did find a bug in the shop though. If I have the sell window open for a single fish, I can click Sell All, get my payout, and then click Sell in the open window even though I don't have that fish anymore technically. Nothing gamebreaking, but it's there. Thanks for making this!

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! We're actively fixing that and other small bugs, so thanks for bringing it to our attention!

The bug is now fixed — thank you for your patience!

(+2)

Amazing game! Great art and lovely sounds. Well done Ryna and the rest of the team!

Thank you for playing our game! And thank you as well for igniting my passion in video game audio — I couldn't have done this without you!

(+2)

Neat idle game! I like art and presentation a lot! There’s a good amount of flavor text to read about the fish you catch, which helps kill time while waiting for catches. I also think there was a good message at the end! Overall, I had a fun time! Great work on this!

(+1)

Thank you so much for sharing our game! Absolutely loved watching your playthrough. <3

(+2)

Phenomenal work guys, really. One of the best jam games I've played period. Crazy this could be done under a limited timespan.
